Mormon Africa

African Mormons number approximately 250,000 as of July 2009. The story of Mormons in Africa has a short but rich history of faithful African Saints awaiting the arrival of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The LDS Church in Africa is quickly growing and establishing itself in countries that stretch across the continent. Mormon members, missions and missionaries in Africa can be found from the South (South Africa, Botswana & Mozambique) to the Horn of Africa (Ivory Coast, Ghana) to central countries (Nigeria, the Democratic Republic of Congo) and finally to the East (Kenya, Ethiopia). African Temples of the LDS Church now stand in Johannesburg, South Africa, Accra, Ghana and Aba, Nigeria. There are 18 Mormon missions in Africa and the growth rate of the LDS Church in Africa is very high compared to other parts of the world. Indeed it appears that despite the difficulties at large of the continent, the future is very bright for the many faithful African Saints.
