Mormon Asia
The Mormon Church has a long history in some parts of Asia while it’s just beginning in other parts. The LDS Church in Japan, the Philippines, Taiwan, South Korea and other countries is strongly established. While the LDS Church in China has numerous expatriate branches but like the Mormons in the Middle East, adhere to government restrictions on proselytizing and worshiping. Further, the LDS Church has a small but growing presence in Pakistan, India, and other Southeast Asian countries. Evidence of the firm establishment of The LDS Church in some Asian countries is the presence of temples. Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, South Korea and the Philippines all have LDS Temples. (There are actually two LDS Temples in Japan, and there is a second under construction in the Philippines.) Many of these “developing” countries consist only of expatriate Mormons working abroad and/or very small Mormon congregations of natives while the “established” countries have many native members. Some “developing” countries do allow Mormon missionary work to be done (ie. India) plus all Mormon missions in the firmly established countries as previously mentioned. The LDS Church will undoubtedly continue to expand its presence across Asia as members continue to gain experience and progress spiritually.
