Mormon Politics

The Mormon Church is officially politically neutral and neither endorses any one party or platform wherever it is established throughout the world. Further, the Mormon Church does not allow for its buildings to be used for any political activity at any time under any circumstance regardless of geographic location. The Mormon Church does though retain its right to speak out on major social issues that it feels it has a duty to protect due to their importance as established in Mormon canon. (One recent example of this is the role played by the LDS Church in the gay marriage debate.) Individual Mormons are free to practice politics as they wish and the Church neither encourages nor requires that Mormons follow or endorse any one party, candidate or platform. Mormon politics in this sense of the word is an oxymoron. (In the United States the general perception is that Mormons tend to align more with the Republican Party’s stances though there are faithful Mormon Democrats, most notably Harry Reid.) Famous Mormon politicians include at the very least Mitt Romney, Harry Reid and Jon M. Huntsman Jr. in the United States. Further, political commentator Glenn Beck is a Mormon convert.

Since it seems that The LDS Church continues to get pummelled from various sources I thought it prudent to post some resources that are pro-LDS.
