LDS Philadelphia Temple Location Changed Due to Contamination
The Philadelphia Mormon Temple that was announced in October 2008 has a new location. Previously the temple was to be built on the “east side of the 400 block of North Broad, between Noble and Hamilton Streets.” Last week reports indicated that the site that was originally announced is no longer suitable due to contamination on site. According to the report the temple will be built on land that the LDS Church is “in the process” of buying, located at 1739 Vine St. This location is only several blocks away. (LDS Church Temples has an updated map of the new location of the Philadelphia Temple.) Plans for the lot also will include a meeting house and genealogy center in addition to the Philadelphia Temple.
Mormon World has previously posted about the Philadelphia Temple. Particularly the comments are full of insightful and original information from local members and former missionaries.

Mormons pick new site for Phila. temple

I’m excited to see the Church is anxious to start construction with the temple. Two or three years is perfect for this to help bring the fulness of the priesthood to Philadelphia around the extinction of they Mayan Calendar.
I just hope everything goes well with purchasing the property and getting the rights to build everything the Church wants in that location.
As a convert from Philadelphia I must put aside my bias. However, I will state that the new location is incredibly prominent and will bring much more exposure to the church than any suburban location would. The church also owns a very desirable parcel right outside Valley Forge National Park but they chose an urban location instead. I think the design of this Temple will turn out to be one of the more unique in the world due to its urban setting.
Tom & Michael,
Sorry for such DELAYED responses. Thanks for commenting and visiting. Yes, I hope construction goes well and I am also very excited to see the design of the new temple. With not too many urban temples to this point it is a little more exciting to see the design as I feel there is a better chance it will be different than others.

What’s happened to this website. There has not been a post in almost 3 months. Is anyone still operating it.
Dan,
Yes I am still around. Serious time constraints has made it impossible in the short term to post at all, let alone any kind of frequency. Mormon World is far from dead and hopefully in the next couple of months I will be able to start to post regularly again. Any questions…mormonworld@gmail.com
Sorry for any inconvenience.

Should I put on my sackcloth yet (its been a long 4 months)
aren’t there about 4 contributors to this web sight. Are all of them just to busy to do a single posting in 5 months. Something really needs to be done.
Yep, this site is not active any more. What’s happened? It’s been 6 months. Please respond.
Dan,
Yes Mormon World has been inactive for 6 months. I simply don’t have the time to do it anymore. At the same time I am not going to take it down as 1) there is some great content on here 2) I (and others) put a lot of time and effort to get it to this point and 3) I remain hopeful that at some point I will have time to actively blog on a regular basis again. Until then you’ll just have to be patient or contribue via the submission form. Sorry if this dissapoints. Such is life sometimes.
