Inspiring LDS Stake Growth

While I work on a few follow up posts about The LDS Church in India I wanted to post the following video related to LDS Church growth throughout the world. It is an inspiring movie to see the growth of The Church in this way. It is amazing how the growth has accerlerated so much in recent years. At what pace will it grow in the future!? And what will happen when stakes begin to be established in large numbers in the densely populated areas where they haven’t been to this point-Africa, Middle East, Southeast Asia (India, China) etc?

First a couple of definitions will help those unfamiliar with LDS vocabulary understand the video. From the glossary at mormon.org  it defines ward and stake as follows:

Ward: “A local congregation of about three hundred to eight hundred members. Ward boundaries are determined geographically.”

Stake: “A group of congregations or wards, generally about three thousand to five thousand members in five to ten congregations.”

Creation of stakes thus can be seen as the extent to which The Church has been established in a certain area as membership grows and buildings are constructed. The following video shows the establishemnt of LDS Stakes throughout the world from the beginnings of The Church in the 19th century until 2007.

It is less then three minutes long and is set to the hymn “The Spirit of God.” Enjoy the video for now! (Remember if you click on the little box icon you can watch the video on full screen.) You can also watch this video on the Mormon Videos page.
